Well, I did it. I crossed the finish line at the Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii. Words cannot explain the emotions I felt when I finally reached the end of 140.6 miles. It was a very long day, but a day I will forever cherish. Even though my actual time, 13 hours and 50 minutes, wasn't what I expected, I never gave up in the darkest of moments. I gained new insight into my mental toughness and I'm stronger now for it. There were a few factors (medically) going against me before the race, and here is the nitty gritty of my story.
This race was my second and final full distance Ironman event for the year (earlier in the season was IM Boulder), and a wonderful closeout to a busy triathlon season. There were a few things I know I can improve on for next year, but I am very happy with the results:
